Master luthier Wenzel Fuchs crafted this German master cello around 1970. It is an exceptionally lovely instrument with a solid sound. Wenzel Fuchs came from a family of instrument makers with roots in the Bohemian village of Schönbach (now Luby in the Czech Republic). After World War II, he was displaced to the German province of Franconia, where he settled in Eltersdorf near Erlangen. The original label is in the body of the cello, which has a top of moderately-grained spruce and a two-part back and ribs of gently flamed maple. These excellent tone woods are set off by a thin coat of light golden-brown varnish. The rather small and delicate scroll as well as the attractively carved sound holes shape the character of this master cello, which we received in undamaged condition and thoroughly set up in our specialist atelier. This master cello has a warm, deep sound that is somewhat sweet.
