This old German 1/4 violin is a rare-to-find piece that was handcrafted around 1910 in Germany, probably not manufactured but a masterpiece made in a small workshop in Markneukirchen situated in the Bohemian-Saxonian "Musikwinkel" - indicated by the typical style of workmanship, the tonewoods, the transparent yellow Markneukirchen color, and the inlaid purfling. The spruce top with its distinctive regular grain and the extraordinary flamed maple of the two-piece back are accentuated beautifully by the play of colors of the transparent golden-brown varnish over a golden yellow ground. Small and elegant soundholes and the carefully cut scroll call attention to the extraordinary quality of the craftsmanship of this old Saxonian 1/4 violin featuring a pleasant sound: warm, well-balanced, mellow, rich, and bright in character.
