This French 1/2 violin is very nice small instrument, that will please children if only beause of its sunny color. It was built approx. 1930 in the French violin making town Mirecourt and bears the original label "Thévenin Luthier Brevete Paris" inside the body, most presumably a trademark of the renowned workshops of Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy (JTL) or Laberte. The color and texture of the highly transparent, shining, warm and orange-brown colored varnish feature unmistakable Mirecourt style and make the beautiful tonewoods shine. The character of the widely grained spruce of the top and of the mildly flamed maple that was used for the one-piece back matches the violin´s strong, clear and bright sound perfectly, an exceptionally strong voice for a small-sized instrument, that bears dark notes and the typical sound advantages of French violins. This piece is preserved in excellent, undamaged condition and was worked-over thoroughly in our workshop, ready to please any young musician.
