This small antique 1/2 violin ranks among the rare superior quality 1/2-sized instruments that were made in Mittenwald, most likely by Neuner & Hornsteiner. It was meticulously and skillfully crafted by hand around 1900. Many traces of use and scratches especially at the top and the back indicate, that this instrument has a rich musical biography and was often and intensively played. The 1/2 violins' exceptionally good artisanry and the quality of the tone woods used are what make it a true Mittenwald violin that shares all the distinguished hallmarks of its famous provenance, even as a children's instrument. Medium-grained domestic spruce was chosen for the top and good Mittenwald sycamore maple for the two piece back. It is clear that the otherwise undamaged fine 1/2 violin in perfectly maintained condition offered young talented players a wide scope of musical options, thanks to its mellow, warm and somewhat darker sound in the lower register, a characteristic which Mittenwald violins are known for. Our expert luthiers worked over this antique children´s violin carefully and made it ready to play.
