3/4 sized violin, probably by J. A. Baader Mittenwald

Old 3/4 Mittenwald violin, circa 1900

This attractive 3/4-sized violin was handcrafted by a skilled luthier in Mittenwald, morst probably at the ateliers of J. A. Baader in Mittenwald in approximately 1900. This rare and very good quality unlabeled 3/4 violin with its standard Mittenwald style features premium tone woods, which is in keeping with the good reputation of the internationally successful company J. A. Baader founded in 1790. The violin was patterned after an uncommon and very flat model; both the table and the ribs are very low. The golden yellow varnish has signs from playing and has developed a charming patina that helps shape the appealing and historic aesthetic of the very well maintained instrument, which is ready to play. Its bright, open sound is powerful and clear, with a sweet note in the upper registers and a gentle one in the lower range.
