Italian viola with label Giuseppe Pedrazzini, attributed to Natale Novelli and with a certificate from Giuseppe Lucci who attributes the instrument to Pedrazzini's nephew Natale Novelli. The viola in 42 soloist format is very comfortable to play thanks to its light weight. As a typical Italian work of the 1970s, it combines an exceptionally good sound quality with interesting craftsmanship subtleties that the builder afforded himself in artistic freedom and spectacularly grained close-grained maple for the back. Thus, the somewhat careless varnish provides a confident aesthetic counterpoint to the exquisitely powerful tight flaming of the two-piece maple back. The deeply engraved scroll also shows that an experienced hand was at work here, which was quite capable of controlled unconventionality. However, the instrument proves to be a true Italian viola with its bright, warm sound, rich in different colors. After a careful setup in our specialized workshop, we recommend this crack-free and overall well-preserved viola, ready to play, to musicians with a sense for the extraordinary who appreciate an instrument of full-blooded character.
