The Markneukirchen bow maker August Rau learned the bow making trade in the 1880s from the Nürnberger family and then worked in Dresden for some time
This fine August Rau violin bow is a rare and exceptionally well-preserved example in gold fittings. After his time in Dresden and with a wealth of experience gained from the renowned bow makers Knopf and Weichold, August Rau opened his own workshop in Markneukirchen in 1890. There, at the mid of the 20th century, he built this fine octagonal gold bow out of the finest pernambuco wood. A beautiful mother-of-pearl slide and eye adorn the striking, gold-mounted ebony frog. The violin bow has its perceived balance point in the middle, minimally in the lower half. Free shipping, with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
