This rare violin bow was built arount the mid of the 19th century in the style of the early English bow maker Thomas Tubbs (approx. 1770 – approx. 1830). Thomas Tubbs was a skillful master in the footsteps of John Dodd; his grand-son James Tubbs grew to be one of the most important bow makers in Europe. This unstamped bow is quite short, 73.1 cm, as it is typical for early English models; it´s weight is 62.3 g. The strong round stick is made of brasil wood with good elasticity, featuring an outstanding sound for a bow of this price, very strong and dominant, clear and precise. The head is crafted in the unmistakeable style of early Thomas Tubbs works. The ebony frog is nickel mounted, with a framed mother of pearl eye shimmering green and blue. With a measured balance-point of the bow at 26.1 cm, it´s weight feels very well balanced from the tip to the frog.
