A medium-strong violin bow by Francois Lotte, fluid and forgiving to play with little pressure;
François Lotte (1889–1970) was an independent bow maker in Mirecourt whose workshop built up an excellent reputation and a large customer base starting in the late 1920s – including numerous well-established luthiers such as René Bailly, for whom this high-quality masterwork was made: a violin bow of unmistakable French provenance with a substantial, radiant, bright and warm sound.
This François Lotte violin bow is in exceptionally good condition with no significant signs of wear, perfectly showcasing the fine, masterful workmanship of the head and the medium-strength bow stick made of reddish-brown pernambuco. The original historic fittings of the violin bow include the classic nickel mountings and the ebony frog with a mother-of-pearl eye, above which the stamp “René Bailly” is affixed. The natural elasticity of the violin bow and its center of gravity, which is slightly toward the upper half, allow for a fluid playing style with little pressure that forgives imprecise embouchure or bowing. These are the strengths that led us to include this violin bow in the selection of French violin bows in the Corilon catalogue.
