The Penzels are a family of bow-makers with long tradition. Emil Max Penzel founded his workshop for artist violin bows in Erlbach near Markneukirchen, his descendants continue his work nowadays in Ostrach, South Germany. This violin bow by Kurt Gerhard Penzel was made around 1960 in Ostrach. Its octagonal stick of light weight and medium strength is asmooth, forgiving player - it is made of light-brown pernambuco wood and bears the original Penzel stamp on shaft above the frog. The ebony frog is nickel mounted with a Pearl eye. This good Penzel violin bow has a sensed balance-point is well-centered slightly shifted towards the frog, measured at 26.8 cm including the adjuster. The bow produces a warm, bright sound that is precise and voluminous.
