A responsive, strong and agile bow of the highest quality, silver mounted, with Penzel Original stamp
Matthias Penzel's internationally acclaimed work is in the finest tradition of German bow making. He selected the finest materials for this new violin bow from his well-stocked warehouse and crafted it with as much sense of style as musical subtlety – a bow in which the legacy of four generations of outstanding master bow makers takes on a worthy form.
The family history that Matthias Penzel has been continuing since the early 2000s begins with none other than the historical pioneer of French bow making in Germany: H. R. Pfretzschner, for whom Emil Max Penzel had worked for 10 years before founding his own workshop in Gopplasgrün near Markneukirchen in Saxony in 1907. The family passed on the craft from generation to generation and retained its wealth of experience even after moving to southern Germany after the war in the early 1950s. As with many well-established violin and bow making ateliers, the high standard of Matthias Penzel's work is based on a stock of premium woods; for the violin bow offered here, he selected pernambuco that was aged for more than 50 years. Crafted with the finest workmanship, the stick is perfectly balanced, with the centre of gravity in the upper half, slightly towards the tip. The ebony frog runs on a high-quality Hill track and is decorated with a Parisian eye that complements the high-quality sterling silver fittings. With a powerful sound that is well suited to modulation, this extremely responsive Matthias Penzel violin bow plays with agility and always with fluidity.
