This perfectly balanced violin bow comes from the possession of NDR symphony orchestra, an excellent bow that was crafted by master Emil Max Penzel(1887-1953) around 1950. He was the pater familias of a family of bow makers which has lived in Baden-Württemberg in southwestern Germany since the 1950s and continues to work today. In 1903, Penzel opened his own atelier in the Vogtland village of Erlbach after having spent ten years working for the famous master H. R. Pfretzschner in Markneukirchen, Saxony. Clear traces of use and wear confirm the excellent musical qualities of this Emil Max Penzel violin bow. At a length of 74.3 cm, its balance point is centered and is measured at 26.3 cm. The round stick is of good strength, high tension and fine elasticity - it is made of red-brown pernambuco, and the ebony frog with Parisian eye is shaped with silver fittings that suit E. M. Penzel's preferred “French” style. This fine Emil Max Penzel master violin bow by this sought after maker is responsive and active in its playing, creating a warm, fluid, precise and noble, delicate sound. Scratches from the bow holder of the violin case on the bar frog back.
