Antique violin from Germany, built around 1850 - a characteristic example of Klingenthal violin making in the 19th century, which produced exceptionally beautiful sounding instruments. Master violins that were crafted there in this period are famous for their beautiful sound. The glossy light-brown colored varnish is typical for this provenance, too, and determines the antique character of the quality tonewoods that were chosen for this instrument. Both the two-piece back and the ribs were crafted of beautiful, strongly flamed maple, and the top ist of excellent, medium grained spruce. The scroll and the carefully worked out archings are expressive carvings full of character, and it introduces the skilled hand of an experienced violin maker, just as the slim and elegantly cut soundholes. The most important feature of his work is, of course, the strong, clear sound of this violin, that is preserved with an uncritical repair to the left lower bout in very good condition. It was worked over completely in our atelier and is ready to play. The sound is warm, sweet, mellow and full of character.
