This antique violin was built by Friedrich August Meisel sen. in Klingenthal, Saxony, an original instrument that bears a 1891 dated handwritten label inside. After the death of F. A. Meisel sen. in 1894 his sons cooperated in his atelier, managed by Friedrich August Meisel jun. The good name of their father was well-known for his artisanal talents, and made sure they were sold. This Friedrich August Meisel sen. violin offered here is an excellent sounding instrument, with some straightforward details such as the scroll, in order to be able to offer best musical qualities at an affordable rate. Many traces from playing and some retouch, the beautiful spruce top and the mildly flamed, two-piece maple back determine the antique appearance of the violin that features a light-brown colored varnish with the antique character of its patina and interesting traces of use. This well-preserved instrument was approved and carefully worked over by the violin makers in our atelier, ready to play with its very delicate colorful, sweet sound, that is warm and features a mature, but rather bright than dark note.
