This outstanding Baroque violin was built in the historic style and has a lovely sound; master luthier Michael Pilger crafted it in 1997 in Cologne. Much like his tutors Willem Bouman, the highly respected Dutch expert on historic stringed instruments, and Christian Brosse, the gamba maker Pilger also created a good name for himself in the world of gambas and baroque violins, in part due to the work he did for the Ensemble Musica Antiqua of Cologne. This violin is stylish and restrained in its aesthetic, but what makes it even more compelling is its very well-balanced full and voluminous sound with a maturity which is not commonplace in such a young instrument. The expressive carving of the scroll indicates the quality of this violin, which is made of the finest tone woods and varnished with a thick coat of golden brown. Our luthiers have confirmed that this instrument is in outstanding condition and will meet professional standards. It is now ready to play after having been thoroughly set up at our atelier, and we highly recommend it.
