Didier Nicolas, French master violin, approx. 1810

This gorgeous antique French violin's fascinating patina and antique appearance bear witness to her long life and intense use. This large violin is a late (circa 1810/1820) work of Didier Nicolas (1757-1833), one of the largest names of French lutherie, whose workshop D. Nicolas Aine grew to become one of the most successful violin companies of Mirecourt. The best instruments were meticulously crafted by Didier Nicolas himself and patterned after his own personal Stradivarius model. Playful elegance and a master of great experience can be seen in the most accurately cut soundholes and the precision of the delicate purfling. The unusual and choice sound of this outstandingly beautiful Didier Nicolas violin is powerful and strong, mature yet clear; it cannot be compared with most other Mirecourt instruments of the time. Having a resonant but dominant sound, this Didier Nicolas violin has been serving excellent large handed players for almost 200 years and is offered crackfree in remarkable condition.
