Fine French Paris master violin, Georges Defat, No. 87, 1942

This fine French Paris master violin which was made by Georges Defat in 1942, is an outstanding instrument with an exceptional and graceful aesthetic. Georges Defat left a distinctive mark by crafting an elegantly shaped Amati based model, widely flared corners with delicately inlaid purfling, small and refined sound holes and a most wonderful two piece back with a gently sloping flat arch. The extent of his artisanry can also be seen in his choice of tone woods, which are of the utmost quality, both in appearance and in their acoustic qualities. The rich, bordeaux-red varnish has developed a charming historic craquellation and patina that harmoniously complements the exquisitely and lovingly carved, mighty scroll. The sound of this violin is distinctively beautiful: dark, noble and warm, yet also sweet and singing in the upper ranges, mature, balanced. It is an instrument that projects instandly and is offered crackfree in perfectly maintained condition, worked over and set up by the professional luthiers at Corilon, and is indubitably worthy of our warmest recommendation.
