This late 19th century violin is an exceptionally well-crafted instrument: it can proudly hold its own, thanks to the aesthetic of its beautiful tone woods and the outstanding sound that is worthy of solo performance. The finely-grained spruce of the top and the deeply flamed maple of the two-part back feature an individuality and beauty that are a visual reference to the finest Italian pieces; they also harmonise beautifully with the violin's stylish, elegant model. Flawless examples of the careful craftsmanship are evident in the delicate purfling that extends deep into the widely drawn corners, as well as the blackened edges of the scroll. The original label reading "Carl Meyer, Markneukirchen" is still inside; it is a relatively uncommon label, and its presence does not conclusively verify that the master was indeed Meyer himself. Nevertheless, this violin's fabulous musical properties place it violin solidly in the top tier of the rich tradition of Saxonian violin making. It is a reasonably priced instrument, especially for its class and its perfect condition, ready to play; our luthier has set it up carefully and given it a premium rosewood fittings. The violin is wonderfully responsive and balanced; its sound is bright, rich in overtones and powerful, resonant and full of character.
