French violin by René Jacquemin 1927

The mastery of René Jacquemin's work is evident in this premium French violin dating back to the year 1927. Its original label and Rene Jacquemin's personal signature confirms that it was crafted by the master himself. This expressive instrument thus belongs to the tradition of the great Léon Victor Mougenot, in whose Mirecourt atelier Jacquemin was trained, as were many of the best French luthiers of his day. The choice of the very evenly-grained spruce for the top and of flamed maple for the two-piece back shows the high artisanal standards which are characteristic for the Mougenot school. The carving of the narrow scroll is delicate in its details, and like the peg box, it was made typically French in style. A thick coat of orange-brown oil varnish and the strikingly carved corners demonstrate the young, talented and well-trained luthier's justified sense of self-confidence. The violin made its way to us in undamaged condition; it was carefully set up in our studio and is now ready to play. This model has a low table, and the violin's voice is compelling with its large, warm and well-rounded sound full of volume.
