The sophisticated sound of this historical Klotz violin is melodious and pure: it is a mature and originally labeled piece by Georg Carl Klotz, who is also referred to as Georg Kloz II. The grandson of the famous Matthias Klotz (Kloz) and son of the influential master Sebastian Klotz, Georg Klotz was some 60 years of age when he crafted this instrument. However, it cannot be considered one of his later pieces in the traditional sense, since Georg Klotz still had nearly two more decades ahead of him in which he continued to contribute to his extensive lifetime oeuvre. As a matter of fact, the majority of the authentic instruments made by the Klotz family are attributed to him and his brother, and this violin also clearly reflects the work of an experienced master, what with its distinctive appearance which has only grown more beautiful over time and its superior musical qualities. The delicately shaped Baroque sound holes are as much an expression of the Klotz family tradition as they are of Georg’s personal style. The original luminously lovely aesthetic of the instrument is still evident on the back's reddish-brown varnish. The finely-grained spruce used for the back and the elegant flamed maple of the two-piece back have aged beautifully in their 250 years and give this Klotz violin its unmistakable warm, sweet voice. Given the advanced age of the instrument, it comes as no surprise that a few restorations were made, and they were executed with the greatest expertise and care, perfectly in keeping with the artisanal mastery which went into making the instrument. The scroll was made by a later hand. A certificate issued by the highly esteemed expert for Klotz instruments Wolfgang Zunterer is included in the price and confirms the authenticity of this Klotz violin; and its marvelous sound makes it much more than simply an unearthed historic gem.
