German violin after Guarnerius, c.1890 Lowendall workshop

This beautiful German violin was crafted approx. 1890 in the Berlin workshop of the virtuoso luthier Louis Löwenthal, a cosmopolitan and canny businessman who always enjoyed experimentation as a violin maker. Internationally he was well-known with his anglicized name "Luis Lowendall". In his workshop he employed important masters such as the renowned German bow maker Heinrich Knopf, and he maintained a professional relation and friendship with the father of violin making in the U.S.A., George Gemunder. This violin that bears Lowendall's "Joseph Guarnerius" model label represents a typical Lowendall workshop violin in its style and exceptional quality. Especially the beautiful red brown varnish that bears many traces from playing that is still shining after such a long time gives good evidence for this. The flamed maple of the two-piece back features a tonewood of rarely to find quality. After a complete work-over by our experienced luthiers we offer this interesting Lowendall workshop violin in excellent condition, immediately ready to play with a recommendable sound, that is warm, large and radiant.
