Daniele Tonarelli violin from 2020.

Daniele Tonarelli (b. 1976) is a young violin maker who has established himself in the current violin-making scene in Cremona. With his violin from 2020, he presents an instrument that is programmatically in the venerable tradition of the proverbial violin-making city. Its unmistakably Italian sound and pleasant playing properties offer advanced amateurs a good foundation for tackling demanding repertoire.

Without detracting from his clear commitment to the heritage of Amati, Stradivari and Guarneri, Daniele Tonarelli, violin maker in Cremona, incorporates new ideas into his work, which he received during his training at the International School of Violin Making in his hometown of Cremona, among other places. Daniele Tonarelli's mentor Giorgio Scolari is a direct successor of masters such as Pietro Sgarabotto and Gio Batta Morassi, who revived Cremonese violin making from the 1950s onwards; he also trained Marco Nolli, where Daniele Tonarelli worked after graduating. Successful exhibitions in Bagnacavallo, Baveno and Moscow paved the way for the opening of Tonarelli's own workshop in 1997 – a bold step for a young master of just 21 years old.

The Daniele Tonarelli violin offered here is a worthy addition to the Corilon catalogue, not least because of the beautiful tone woods that Tonarelli chose with confidence: he used flamed maple from the Balkan region for the back, ribs, neck and scroll, and premium red spruce for the top, which he sources from the Val di Fiemme region in the style of the old Italian masters. The transparent varnish, made according to his own recipe, gives this violin its beautiful appearance and provides a good foundation for its well-rounded sound, which the experts at our workshop further developed and refined during a thorough examination.
