A self-confident individuality and full-blooded Italian character are the hallmarks of this Italian violin from Milan made by a maker unknown to us, a rare instrument which ranks amongst the works of an internationally renowned master. The craftsmanship and musical standards the maker demonstrated with this c.1930 violin can be considered a tribute to the rich traditions of the workshop where he may have learned his trade, the Bisiach atelier, which was founded in Milan. The maker rightfully marked this instrument to identify himself as its creator, unfortunately, the original label inside the violin was probably damaged and removed in the course of a repair that did not proceed optimally, as was the original varnish on the neck and scroll, which show later varnishing. The very evenly grained premium spruce of the top and the deep flames of the sycamore maple used for the two-piece back are Italian tone woods of the highest quality. The large and powerful scroll as well as the broad beesting corners express the unmistakable personal style. The coat of orange-broqwn varnish is typical of Milanese violin making (compare to Cremona violin making) of the day. Intensive traces of use testify to the enthusiasm that this violin’s exceptionally good sound has inspired within its lifespan. The radiant richness of its bright and sweet character is worthy of our special recommendation for sophisticated musicians. This interesting Italian violin has now been carefully set up and made ready to play, waiting to become a dependable and multi-facetted musical partner.
