This antique violin was made in approximately 1850; it is a typical example of Klingenthal trade craftsmanship and is of rare tone quality in the price range. The slim Strad model makes the instrument stand out amongst similar instruments dating from around 1900, a time when lion's-head violins were in high demand and were widely produced. The warm yellow-brown varnish is typical of the Vogtland region and has developed a historic patina; the broad modeled instrument bears the traces of use that are appropriate for its age, and its Saxonian heritage is immediately apparent. The old violin's attractive aesthetic is a good complement to its ancient sound, which is not as powerful as modern violins. This violin needs a good player to develop its sound. We offer this instrument in good condition, worked over by the luthiers in our violin shop and ready to play.
