This powerful mid 20th century Mittenwald violin is a self-assured piece by Ottomar Hausmann and is a successful example of the Guarneri model, a template which was commonly followed at his studio. Ottomar Hausmann originally hailed from the Bohemian village of Schönbach and settled in Mittenwald as a refugee in 1946. An experienced master, Ottomar Hausmann's versatility can be seen in both this violin and another instrument featured in our catalogue, an Ottomar Hausmann viola he made in keeping with Mittenwald tradition. He selected outstanding tone woods from the Karwendel mountains for both of these instruments. The attractively flamed maple of the one piece back reflects the quality of this violin with its eye-catching beauty, and the rich, orange-gold oil varnish complements its aesthetic. The elegantly executed purfling shows Hausmann's solid mastery of traditional craftsmanship. The original label is located on the inside of the back. Our luthier has carefully gone over the undamaged violin and made it ready to play, and we can recommend this perfectly preserved violin especially because of its large, dominant, voluminous, clear sound full of overtones.
