In the early 20th century, the "Officina Claudio Monteverdi" of the master luthier Aristide Cavalli in Cremona ranked among the well-known addresses in Italian violin making; his workshop was a place in which the style and high standards of the old masters were upheld, reflecting a great appreciation of craftsmanship. The Officina Claudio Monteverde was the birthplace of this old Italian violin, which still has its original dated "Antonio Lechi" model label. The mild flames of its two-piece maple back clearly illustrate how distinctive this instrument is, although its finishing touches and its scroll are purely Italian. It has classically carved sound holes, a small, elegant scroll and a patinated spirit-oil varnish in a brilliant orange-red. Some flaws to the varnish on the top are both common amongst instruments of this age, while this instrument is preserved in remarkable undamaged condition. This affordable old Italian violin can be recommended because of its superb and powerful sound with a warmth, precision and resonant strength that are all marked by an indubitably Italian character. It is now ready to play after having been thoroughly set up and worked over by our specialists.
