This fine French violin has a powerful sound and is a highly interesting instrument from the famous atelier Roger & Max Millant in Paris. Its radiant and nuanced voice confirms its heritage as the work of a highly regarded and traditionally oriented atelier. The studio jointly managed by the brothers Roger and Max Millant was one of the top addresses for French string instrument making from 1923 to 1969, and after WWII they won countless gold medals in Cremona and other international competitions. The history of their family dates far back into 18th century Mirecourt, and the Millants’ influence lives on in Bernard Millant’s old atelier, which is now led by Loic Le Canu, as well as in the work of his student J. F. Raffin. The phenomenal quality of this violin comes as no surprise: the dated original label inside the body. Premium-quality maple with deep flames emphasizes the instrument’s unconventional appearance by setting sophisticated accents — from the one-piece back to the ribs to the delicate carving of the scroll. The harmonious, orange-brown oil varnish over a golden base has been kept in perfect condition with only few traces of use. After having been thoroughly set up by the specialists at our atelier for restoration, it is now ready to play, and we offer this flawless rare violin in excellent condition. We especially recommend it to professional musicians and soloists who will appreciate its unmistakable character.
