This modern Italian violin by Giorgio Grisales in Cremona is a full-blooded creation which honours the classic Italian violin-making tradition. It impressively represents the high standards of a workshop that was quite new at the time, having been established only a few years before this violin was made. The dark-red varnish of this Cremona violin has been thickly applied and features a lovely transparency and depth of colour against the moderately grained spruce of the top and the tightly flamed sycamore maple of the two-piece back – interesting tone woods with a few brilliantly highlighted irregularities that define the elegant appearance of this typically Italian violin. Its inimitable and extremely unique character is articulated in the fine details of the purfling and the scroll, which was carved with flawless precision, thus fully reflecting the excellent training of its master, who had moved from his home in Colombia to Cremona in 1982 to study the art of violin making in the city of the old Italian masters. After completing an additional degree in restoration in Milan, Giorgio Grisales returned to Cremona and opened his workshop, where his nephew Ricardo has assisted him since 2000. Winning a silver medal in 2006 at the Eleventh International Violin-Making Triennale of Cremona confirmed the decades of success that this well-known workshop has enjoyed well beyond the borders of Italy, and the splendid and voluminous sound of this instrument confirms how well the award was deserved. With the soft undertone of a true Italian violin and a pleasantly warm and multi-facetted voice, the violin is worthy of our special recommendation. It is now ready to play after having been painstakingly set up at our workshop; the price includes a certificate by Giorgio Grisales that can be seen by clicking the "Certificate" button below.
