Violin with a Nicolas Duchene stamp (JTL), ca. 1900

This French violin was made approx. 1900 after a large and slim model in the renowned violin making town Mirecourt. It is a typical instrument from the famous workshops of Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy (JTL) that was crafted after patterns of the 18th century Mirecourt master Nicolas Duchêne and bears a stamp with his name and the original, numbered label of JTL. The scroll features blackened edges and is a nice, elegant work on a slim pegbox, as it is characteristical for instruments by JTL. The deeply flamed, asymmetrical maple of the one-piece back determines the unmistakably individual character of the violin, that is underlined by the dark red varnish with many traces of use that are common for a good old instrument. The violin is substantially perfectly preserved, our violin makers spent great time and effort to work it over and made it ready to play with a new setup, that includes pegs and a tailpiece of beautiful rosewood. It is immediately ready to play and unfolds its highly recommendable sound, that is clear, bright and radiant, rich in overtones and very resonant.
