This antique Bohemian Violin is especially suitable for Irish and fiddle music, an interesting example of lion's head violins from Bohemia - a kind of instrument that was very popular in the late 19th century and beginning 20th century. The dark brown varnish features an especially dark color, and the typically shaped lion's head indicates the provenance and solid handmade quality of the violin. Being antiqued, the lighter colored ground is visible at the typical places below the dark varnish that covers the grain of the one-piece back and of the regular, medium grained spruce top. This eye catching black aesthetic is the clear work of an routined hand that crafted the violin around 1920 in an unknown manufacture in Bohemia. This lion head violin is preserved crackfree in good condition and was worked over completely in our atelier; we offer it ready to express its recommendably dark, warm, clear and rounded sound, that is responsive, balanced and highly resonant with a mature character.
