This very distinctive antique violin with an Amati model label was most likely made by Leopold and Ferdinand Wolff, better known as the Wolff brothers, in Kreuznach around 1900. Being in substantially good conditon, the full beauty of the magnificently red-brown varnished tonewoods comes into its own. Some minor repairs and older varnish damage spots on top and traces from playing underlines the antique appearance of this beautiful violin and allows us to offer this exceptional sounding Wolff brothers violin at a lowered price. The medium to wide-grained spruce of the top and the regularly flamed maple of the back are complemented by a decent antique finish. The Wolff Bros. enjoyed (and still enjoy) an excellent reputation and their instruments were especially popular and successful on the British isles. This late work of the two brothers was also treated with their secret "special tonal improvement", for it sounds warm, bright and slightly sweetish.
