Rare cello bow by Nicolas Jacquot, circa 1835 (certificate by J.-F. Raffin)

This French cello bow is a rare and exceptionally fine piece by Nicolas Jacquot which was created around 1835 and is one of the later works of this excellent archetier from Mirecourt. The son of one of the oldest French dynasties of violin makers, Nicolas Jacquot upheld the first-rate craftsman traditions of his family and took up the craft of making bows at an early age. This particular piece is a worthy illustration of Jacquot’s decades of refined artisanry and extensive experience, both of which are evident in how he fashioned the round stick of the finest pernambuco and balanced it magnificently. Its balance point is centrally positioned and tends slightly towards the upper half; the light and carefully calibrated weight give this cello bow its multifaceted and comfortable playing properties. A certificate by J. F. Raffin, the internationally esteemed expert in French bows, is included and confirms the authenticity of the stick, which one of its earlier owners had fitted with a top-tier frog and button from the highly regarded workshop Charles Nicolas Bazin. The bow made its way to us in undamaged condition and is now ready to play after having been carefully set up by the experts at our workshop; we recommend this Jacquot cello bow for many reasons, including its typically French sound distinguished by impressive radiance and fullness.
