This Viennese master cello is a true rarity and was crafted by Anton Ostrizek in 1927 as one of only two instruments of its kind in the oeuvre of this interesting master. Produced at a relatively early time in his career, this cello reflects the influence of the outstanding luthiers who taught him their Bohemian craftsman tradition; his ten years of travels as a journeyman included phases working for Franz Trawniczek in BrĂ¼nn, Bohuslav Lantner in Prague and finally as an employee of the highly regarded workshop Viktor Enzensperger in Vienna. As a result, this cello is an aesthetically appealing and beautiful sounding testament to Anton Ostrizek's mature and confident artisanry and tasteful style which defines the distinctive model. Its refined elegance is accentuated by the orange-golden oil varnish that casts a magnificent light on the the superb grain of the spruce top and the tight flames of the maple back and ribs; over time it has developed a charming historic patina. With the label Anton Ostrizek signed and his original experimental bridge, this old cello has been kept in good authentic condition; small repairs under the fingerboard and two unpleasant but functional repairs to the ribs explain the attractive price of this handmade 1920's master cello. We recommend this hand-crafted masterpiece for many reasons, including its pleasant playing characteristics and its mature, warm, lyrical sound. Like all instruments from us, this cello may be traded back in towards the purchase of a higher priced cello thanks to our trade-in programme.
