Master violin by Johann Keller, made around 1950 in Landwüst, a small village near Markneukirchen. Many violin makers of this region are hardly known by name, as their work was sold under the brands of large manufacturers and dealers. Johann Keller, however, has created a remarkable reference of his art with the violin offered here; only rarely are instruments of lesser known names characterized by a comparably high quality workmanship and such a strong sound full of character. Johann Keller worked from a very individual model with flat, well executed arching and elegant sound holes. Medium grained spruce as top wood and a maple back with wonderful flaming texture determine the appearance of the instrument under luminous transparent orange oil varnish. A highly recommended Vogtland master violin in undamaged, perfect condition, with a warm, bright sound that has a soft nuance in the lower ranges.
