Historic student violins from Mirecourt, the French town with a rich violin-making tradition, enjoy an outstanding reputation, and this is certainly due in part to the many well-regarded ateliers which also crafted smaller instruments around the turn of the 20th century. This particular violin, a ¾-sized piece, is an expressive example of these sought-after Mirecourt instruments. Based on a Stradivarius model, it bears a Lutherie Masspacher dealers label where the violin was originally sold. Useful tone woods from the Vosges mountains were used for the gently-arched body: the top is of moderately-grained spruce, and the two-piece back is of mildly flamed sycamore maple. The richly applied dark red varnish shows some marks and flaws, especially at the left soundhole, what allows us to offer this tonally excellent 3/4 violin at a low price. In its perfectly maintained condition, this lovely French 3/4 violin was carefully looked over in our workshop and is ready to play right away. It sings with a pleasantly powerful, clear, dark voice.
