This premium-quality 1/2 violin features an exceptionally good sound which impressively demonstrates the high standards of stringed instruments crafted in Ernst Reinhold Schmidt's ateliers. Schmidt had been thoroughly trained by the famous masters of his day by the time he established his own studio in 1874 in the Saxonian town of Markneukirchen. “E. R. Schmidt & Co.” quickly advanced to become one of the internationally leading names in instruments from the Vogtland region. Built around the turn of the century, this violin features excellent craftsmanship, as can be seen in the finely-grained spruce of the top and the broadly-flamed maple of the two-piece back. The accentuated edges and small, elegantly carved sound holes shape the character of this violin, which has a reddish-brown varnish. Its historic appearance is complemented by an interesting patina and traces of use that are becoming to a good violin dating back over one hundred years. This magnificent student instrument was kept in ideal condition over the years, and the restoration specialists at our workshop took great care in setting it up. The violin is now ready to play, and we warmly recommend its bright, warm, clear sound with its mature character and a power rarely found in smaller-sized instruments.
