This ¾-sized Mittenwald violin is an outstanding instrument for talented young musicians: it was made around 1880 at the Mittenwald ateliers of Neuner & Hornsteiner. The unmistakable style of the expressively carved scroll confidently reflects its heritage from the classic violin-making town at the foot of the Karwendel mountains. For centuries, high-quality tone woods have been harvested in Mittenwald – a veritable natural treasure chest, where an experienced luthier selected flamed maple for this violin's two-piece back and very evenly-grained spruce for its top. Like the low arch of the body, the purfling very close to the margins of the 3/4-sized violin is the careful work of a steady and well-trained hand. The historic and luminous red-brownish orange varnish has developed an interesting patina, and its traces of use clearly show that the 3/4 violin once belonged to good musicians who evidently enjoyed playing it frequently. Our experienced luthiers have meticulously worked over this undamaged and finely crafted antique 3/4-sized violin and made it ready to play. It has a winning voice full of warmth and brightness as well as exceptionally precise playing characteristics which open up a wide variety of musical interpretations.
