Oswald Willmann, born in Ostrava (Czech Republic) in 1911 and died in Bratislava in 1969, began his apprenticeship with the well-known Czech violin maker Antonin Galla and continued his workshop in Bratislava after the war. Oswald Willmann's work is known for its first-class choice of wood and beautifully colored varnishes. He was also chairman of the Slovakian Violin Makers' Association and made a significant contribution to the art of violin making. His violin no. 87 is a visual and tonal jewel and bears Oswald Willmann's dated original label.
