Dating back to the 18th century, this rare Southern German baroque viola with a bodylength of 38.1 cm retaining its original neck and bassbar is in remarkable unaltered condition. The beauty of the transparent, luminous golden-brown varnish and the expressive carving of the small, elegant scroll are of a quality that is nearly unparalleled. This baroque viola has a repaired table crack at the soundpost, this repair explain the instrument's remarkably low price. The crack on the top was carefully patched, and it has no effect whatsoever on the sound or the playing characteristics of this rare baroque viola.
