Professional violists will especially enjoy this historic Southern German viola of the 18th century which has an enigmatically warm and joyful sound with beautiful brightness and colors which facilitates musical interpretations in a fashion that is rarely encountered. This rare petite viola with a nail in the upper block, typical for 18th century violin making, has a bodylength of 38.2 cm (vibrating string length 34.7 cm). In his fne viola, the purfling positioned very close to the margin and the large and outstandingly carved scroll demonstrate the skillfulness of a excellently trained and experienced hand. Graceful sound holes and the well-defined arch of the table give the violin its aesthetic. Its one-piece top is made of widely grained spruce and its one-piece back of maple with delicate flames – both premium tone woods whose magnificent tonal properties have developed their full character over the course of generations. This rare petite 18th century viola is preserved with minor flaws and a repair to the right bridge foot (safely away from sound post) which is considered in the price in good condition. We present this rare piece in top playing condition.
