Made in 1935 by Ferdinand Fischer, this good viola of Schönbach ranks among the medium-sized instruments which many musicians prefer because of the benefits they offer in terms of technically demanding performance. Playing an instrument with more advantageous dimensions does not have to mean accepting any musical shortcomings, although if a viola has a body length of around nd less than 40 cm, it needs to feature solid-quality craftsmanship. This Schönbach viola is clearly defined by its good solid work in every way. The lovely gentle arch of the body is well crafted; it has a two-piece back and highly accurate purfling. The elegant aesthetic of this old viola is shaped by small sound holes and their interplay with the transparent red-brown alcohol-based varnish against a golden-yellow background with some red touches. Light traces of use are visible here on this well-treated and well-loved instrument which has a warm, rounded, sweet and perfectly balanced sound that will win you over. The viola was carefully worked over in our workshop and is offered in ready to play condition.
