This 1982 Mittenwald viola is a both a powerful young instrument and a mature work; it was made by Matthias Klotz in keeping with the traditions of his famous family. Born in 1907, Matthias Klotz was a master luthier who learned his trade from his uncle, Laurenz Niggl, in the immediate vicinity of where the Mittenwald violin making museum is now located. This violin is a worthy tribute to the great family it hails from. This warm sounding and highly recommendable 39.8 cm German viola is a piece of good craftsmanship made in the Mittenwald style of selected premium tonewoods. The two-piece back is made of deeply flamed maple, the table of spruce with beautiful, impressive grain. The well-done carving of the scroll in the Mittenwald style characterfully completes the instrument´s beautiful appearance. Some very few traces of use witness to the fact that previous owner appreciated its warm, resonant, rich sound. This modern Mittenwald Matthias Klotz viola was carefully worked over by our luthiers and is offered with a certificate of appraisal for € 4,500 undamaged in perfect, ready to play condition.
