The attractive historic aesthetic of this violin and its warm, mature sound are characteristic features of older instruments which have their roots in the rich traditions of the Saxonian violin-making town Markneukirchen. The violin was made around the turn of the century in the ateliers of the famed C. A. Glier, Sr. company, and it has an original label to match, with an additional label indicating that it was patterned after a classic model inspired by Stradivarius. The body of the instrument has a low table and was crafted of finely grained spruce and gently flamed maple — both tone woods of top quality. The interplay of the wood's colours is enhanced by a thick coat of reddish-brown spirit oil varnish on a yellow background. The varnish still has its high lustre, although it also shows traces of age, which is not uncommon for an instrument which is over one hundred years old. We received this violin in excellent condition, and our luthiers thoroughly set it up and gave it new premium rosewood fittings. It is now ready to play, and we recommend it warmly because of its rich resonance and well-balanced sound.
