W. E. Hill & Sons violin bow. Made by Charles Leggatt, circa 1910

This fine classic W. E. Hill violin bow was made in the early 20th century and reflects the outstanding quality of the work done at the tradition-rooted London atelier W. E. Hill & Sons before the First Wold War - pieces crafted by the best bow makers of the day. This bow is a rare piece that was made by Charles Leggatt, who worked at Hills from 1895 - 1917. This fine Hill bow's strong octagonal stick is made of the finest reddish-brown pernambuco and bears the original W. E. Hill & Sons stamp over the frog. With its high tension that is somewhat constant over the full bow length this excellent W. E. Hill violin bow can play strong and soft/fluid at the same time (an indeed rare combination). It creates a mature, sophisticated sound full of warmth, clarity, character and volume. The traditionally shaped head features a silver head plate, the ebony frog is mounted in genuine silver. The end of the stick is capped witha silver ring. This fine W. E. Hill & Sons bow is a perfectly preserved classical masterpiece by one of the best makers in an esteemed workshop, that was completely reconditioned and made ready to play by our expert luthiers.
