This magnificent violin bow was made in the 1920s by Ernst Willy Zöphel (1893-1973) in Landwüst near Markneukirchen, Saxony. With its delicately crafted head the bow is a characteristical work from Zöphel´s first period, before World War II, when he earned a good reputation with bows of highest quality, some of them with valuable gold-mountings. The strong, octagonal stick is made from finely structured pernambuco, with a blank nickel-mounted ebony frog with metal slide. The capsule adjuster has some minor scratches and is decorated with ebony. The sensed balance-point is wide and near the middle, the measured is at 26.6 cm; its total length is 74.6 cm, total weight 58.7 g. The bow´s high agility and its strong, warm but also clear and great sound feature a good example of Saxon bow making tradition.
