This very fine master bow was crafted by Carl Otto Dürrschmidt (1871-1922), the pater familias of the Markneukirchen-based Dürrschmidt family of bow makers. The bow was made around 1900 and bears the poorly legible stamp “OTTO DÜRRSCHMIDT.” The very strong stick is made of the best quality pernambuco; it is octagonal with a cleanly shaped head that features elegant lines. Dürrschmidt's characteristic style is very clearly expressed in the delicate, genuine-silver mounted frog with a mother-of-pearl eye; the corners of the frog are rounded in typical fashion. The bow measures 62.5 g and 74.8 cm in length (with its button). Its weight is very well balanced, and the balance point feels as if it located more towards the tip, measuring at 25.3 cm. With a sound that is radiant and precise, sophisticated and clear – it is a worthy example of the quality bow-making craftsmanship in Markneukirchen, that was worked over in our workshop and is offered ready to play.
