Some antique instruments seem to refuse photographic documentation, despite of the care and effort we make to provide high resolution photographies in our catalogue. This violin from Klingenthal in Saxony, that was built in the late 19th century, completely reveals the beauty of its deeply shining red-brown colored varnish only in direct sight. The varnish has developed light patina and is an example for the good craftsmanship of the region. Well chosen tonewoods impressively demonstrate the skills of the unknown violin maker, medium grained spruce that was used for the top and the narrow flamed maple of the two-piece back. The scroll is a successful work full of character, the edges and the purfling are executed with care and taste. We offer this antique violin in excellent, crack-free condition, worked over completely by our luthier, ready to unfold its lovely sound, that is bright, warm and somewhat mellow in character.
