This especially attractive antique Markneukirchen violin was made in teh Wilhelm Herwig workshops in the 1920'ies. The violin is a very good quality handmade piece of work made as a beautiful copy of Antonius Stradivarius, the archings are held flat. The violin table is made of medium grained spruce, the two piece back of especially beautiful, deeply flamed maple. The transparent varnish is a spirit-oil varnish of an attracxtive red-brown color, decorated with beautiful antiqueings and applied on a golden-yellow ground. The varnish is slightly patinated and in excellent condition. The small scroll is well proportioned and thoroughly worked out. Like all violins from us this antique Saxon Wilhelm Herwig violin is set up and ready to play after a complete professional workover. The sound is well balanced and of a bright, warm clear character with warm sweetness in the upper ranges.
