An antique German violin. The instrument is a very good quality handmade instrument of the turn of the century around 1900 in the Markneukirchen/Klingenthal area in Germany. The top is made of medium grained spruce, the two piece back of flamed maple. The slightly patinated varnish is of a dark red-brown color with only minor signs of use. The huge scroll is beautifully worked out. The violin is despite a minor repair at the upper rib (a bending crack that happened when the violin was made) undamaged and crackfree. It is set up with a new bridge and soundpost, new strings and new pegs. The bright sound is warm and open and a bit mellow.
