A contemporary baroque violin made by Arthur Bay, Heiligenberg. The instrument was made in 1991 in Heiligenberg, Southern Germany. Arthur Bay studied the art of violin making in Scotland and worked with van Dijk, Deisendorf and Hamma & Co., Stuttgart. The instrument is a fine masterpiece on the model of Stradivarius. The construction follows the early baroque style, the setup with a baroque bridge, gut strings and bone saddles. The top is made of medium grained spruce, the one piece back of mildly flamed maple. The soft varnish is of an intense red/brown color. The inlaid purfling is set close to the edges, which are accentuated. The clear sound is warm, well-balanced, full-bodied and might be described as nuttily. The instrument is offered by the maker and is excluded from the trade-guarantee.
